Mission, Vision & Charism
Answering the needs of our day in the spirit of Mary of the Passion with contemplative depth and practical service.
01
Mission
Mary of the Passion, with a large heart willing to embrace those in need of whatever kind, did not specify a particular line of action for her daughters. Instead, they are expected to answer the needs of our day as she did in her lifetime. Being the first missionary congregation for women in the Church, she reached out wholesale for the development and liberation of women — claiming self-respect, providing the means to earn their livelihood, and daring greatly.
02
Vision
For Mary of the Passion the very purpose of the Institute was to announce to all the reign of God. This universal concept of mission is clearly revealed in her writings on the Kingdom of God — sometimes called the kingdom of love, of charity, of justice, and the kingdom of peace. Hence the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary promote the reign of God through various activities, as well as by the silent witness of their lives, by accepting daily tensions, and through painful physical infirmities.

Charism
Our Charism, which God confided to Mary of the Passion, commits us to follow Christ as he gave himself up to the Father for the salvation of the world, in the mystery of his Incarnation and his Pasch; thus we make up in our bodies all that has still to be undergone by Christ for the sake of his body the Church. This charism is lived in the fundamental attitude that was Mary's in her Ecce and Fiat: she offered her whole being in complete and loving disponibility, in faith and humble service, so that the Spirit might carry out the Father's work in her. Our Charism is the Ecce et Fiat of Mary.
